Lao: Announcement on the abolition of notarization requirements for IP-related documents
In order to facilitate and improve the process of filing applications and other registration-related documents with the Department of Intellectual Property, the Department of Intellectual Property of the Ministry of Science and Technology announces the abolition of the notarization requirement for IP-related documents with effect from 26 June 2023.
According to an announcement issued by the Lao IP Office on 26 June 2023, they will abolish the requirement for notarization of documents related to intellectual property rights such as trademarks, patents, utility model patents and designs. The following documents will no longer require notarization when submitted to the Lao IP Office:

Power of Attorney
-
Inventorship Deed of Assignment
-
Declaration of Assignment
-
Licensing Agreement
-
Declaration of Change of Name/Address
-
Other related matters
The local IP agent will be responsible for the authenticity of the submitted power of attorney in accordance with the law. In case of any doubt, the IP Office will verify or request additional certification in specific cases.
Please note that for applications submitted before 26 June 2023, a notarized original copy of the relevant documents will still be required.
Simplifying the required documents and procedures has no doubt brought tremendous convenience to applicants, saving them time and budget, and enabling them to obtain application rights as soon as possible.
