Recently, the PRC State Administration for Market Regulation, National Medical Products Administration and other government departments have issued the Work Plan for the Innovative Development of Medicines and Medical Devices Supervision in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (hereinafter referred to as the Work Plan), which announces that the system and mechanism for the use of medical devices listed in Hong Kong and Macao by mainland medical institutions in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area ((hereinafter referred to as GBA) will be basically established and the designated medical institutions in GBA will be basically qualified to provide high-level medicines and medical devices by 2022.

According to the Work Plan, medicines that are urgently needed in clinical practice and have been listed in Hong Kong and Macao can be used in designated medical institutions operating in 9 mainland GBA cities after being approved by the Guangdong Provincial People's government.

The designated medical institutions refer to the medical institutions established by the medical and health service providers of Hong Kong and Macao in the form of sole proprietorship, joint venture or cooperation in 9 mainland GBA cities and approved by the Health Commission of Guangdong Province. In the first stage, the University of Hong Kong-Shenzhen Hospital is selected as a pilot institution. It will be gradually extended to other designated medical institutions that meet the requirements after making some progress. The relevant requirements for approval and procedures shall be formulated by the Health Commission of Guangdong Province.

Regarding the list of imported medicines, it shall be jointly determined by the Health Commission of Guangdong Province, the medicines administration and the health departments of Hong Kong and Macao according to the clinical needs and the medicine listing status, and shall be subject to dynamic adjustment.

Meanwhile, after being approved by the Guangdong Provincial People's government, the designated medical institutions in 9 mainland GBA cities will also be able to use medical devices urgently needed, purchased and used in public hospitals in Hong Kong and Macao, which are advanced in clinical application.

As to the list of imported medical devices, it shall be jointly determined by the Health Commission of Guangdong Province, the medicines administration and the health departments of Hong Kong and Macao according to the clinical needs, and shall be subject to dynamic adjustment.
