The following are the frequently asked questions regarding electronic payments in Hong Kong:

Q:
What kind of bills from Inland Revenue Department can I pay by electronic means?
A:
You can pay tax, business registration fee, stamp duty and purchase tax reserve certificate using electronic payment channels.

Q:
What kind of electronic payment channels can I use?
A:
You can pay through following channels:
  • Phone;
  • The Internet (including Faster Payment System); and
  • Bank Automated Teller Machines.

Q:
For electronic payments, what number should I enter as the bill/account number?
A:
It depends on the kind of bill you are settling:
  • To pay tax, you should enter the Shroff Account Number for electronic payment printed on the payment voucher or the 11-digit Shroff Account Number printed on the bottom of the tax demand note;
  • To pay business registration fee, you should enter the 16-digit Business Registration Certificate Number;
  • To pay stump duty, you should enter 12-digit Shroff Account Number on the payment notice;
  • To purchase tax reserve certificate, you should enter 13-digit Tax Reserve Certificate Account Number.


Q:
What should I do if the amount I have to pay exceeds my daily transaction limit?
A: If the amount to be paid exceeds your daily transaction limit, you may pay the amount separately on several days. But the full amount must be settled on or before the due date.

How can I check my daily transaction limit?
A:
You may confirm with your bank operator your daily transaction limit.
