Q:
Can all survivors claim the Taiwan survivor annuity?
A:
The purpose of the Survivor Annuity is to provide long-term support for the living expenses of the insured’s survivors. Not every family member is eligible to receive it; one must meet specific survivor qualifications.
1.
Survivor’s Order:

(1) Spouses and children. (2) Parents. (3) Grandparents. (4) Dependent grandchildren. (5) Dependent siblings.

Survivor Qualification:

(1)
For spouses, one of the following conditions must be met:

A. At least 55 years old, with the marital relationship lasting more than 1 year.
B. At least 45 years old, with the material relationship lasting more than 1 year, and the monthly work income does not exceed the first level of the insured salary classification table.
(2)
For children, one of the following conditions must be met:

Underage, incapable of earning a living, below 25 years old, enrolled in school, and the monthly work income does not exceed the first level of the insured salary classification table.
(3)
For others such as grandparents, grandchildren, or siblings, they must meet the qualification criteria set by the Labor Insurance Bureau.


Q:
Under what circumstances can one claim the Taiwan Survivor Annuity?
A:
The survivor annuity can be claimed by eligible survivors under the following circumstances:
  1. The insured person passes away during the coverage period.
  2. The insured person cancels their insurance but passes away while receiving an old-age pension benefit or a permanent disability pension.
  3. The insured person has at least 15 years of insurance coverage and meets the conditions for the old-age benefits under Taiwan’s old system and passes away before claiming the old-age benefits.

Q:
How is the Taiwan Labor Insurance survivor annuity calculated if the insured passes away during the coverage period?
A:
The payment standard is as follows:
  1. Average monthly insured salary x years of coverage x 1.55%.
  2. A minimum guarantee of NT$3,000.
  3. When there are more than two survivors of the same order, an additional 25% is added for each additional person, up to a maximum of 50%.

Q:
How is the Taiwan Labor Insurance Survivor Annuity calculated if the insured pass away outside the coverage period?
A: If the insured has either “cancelled their insurance and pass away while receiving an old-age pension benefit or a permanent disability pension or “has at least 15 years of insurance contributions and meets the conditions for the old-age benefits under Taiwan’s old system but pass away before claiming the old-age benefits.” then the eligible survivors may claim the Survivor Annuity.
The payment standard is as follows:
  1.  50% of the amount calculated according to the permanent disability pension or old-age pension benefit standards.
  2. A minimum guarantee of NT$3,000.
  3. When there are more than two survivors of the same order, an additional 25% is added for each additional person, up to a maximum of 50%

Q:
What are the eligibility criteria and payment standards for Taiwan’s family death benefits?
A:
(1)
Eligibility Criteria: The insured person’s parents, spouse, or children, if deceased, are eligible for the death of family member funeral allowance.
(2)
Payment Standards: The payment is based on the insured person’s average monthly insured salary for the six months preceding the month of the family member’s death (inclusive):

(a) For the death of parents or spouse: 3 months’ worth.
(b) For children over 12 years old: 2.5 months’ worth.
(c) For children under 12 years old: 1.5 months’ worth.
