Q:
What is Miscellaneous Work Pass (“MWP”)?
A: The MWP is for eligible foreigners on short-term assignments, such as speaker at a seminar, religious workers or journalists.

Q:
Who is eligible for MWP?
A:
You can apply for a MWP if you are:

1.
A foreigner directly involved in, but not limited to, organising or conducting any seminar, conference, workshop or gathering that:
(1)
Relates directly or indirectly to any religious belief, or to religion generally;
(2) Relates directly or indirectly to any race or community generally;
(3) Is cause-related or directed towards a political end, including involvement as a speaker, moderator, facilitator or trainer.

2. A foreign religious worker giving talks directly or indirectly related to any religion;

3. A foreign journalist, reporter, or accompanying crew member not supported or sponsored by any Singapore Government agency to cover an event or write a story in Singapore.

You must also be sponsored by a Singapore-based organisation or society.

If you are a foreigner performing at a public entertainment venue such as a nightclub, lounge or hotel, you should get a Work Permit for performing artiste instead.

If your activity does not fall under any of the categories stated above, you should apply for an Employment Pass, S Pass, or Work Permit instead.

Q:
Who can apply MWP for the foreigners?
A:
An employer or local sponsor needs to apply for the pass on behalf of the foreigners for them to work in Singapore.

Q:
What is the duration of a MWP and is it renewable?
A:
The MWP lets you take on assignments of up to 60 days in Singapore. The MWP is not renewable.

Q:
Does the company need to pay any levy for the MWP holder?
A:
No, the company is not required to pay any levy for the MWP holder.

Q:
What are the required documents for MWP?
A:
You will need these documents to apply:

1.
Personal particulars page of the candidate’s passport; and
2. Synopsis of the talk or event (if applicable).

Q:
How long does it take to process MWP application?
A:
For most cases, the MWP application takes around two (2) months to process. If MOM requires additional documents or clarification, it may take a longer time. Therefore, it is advisable to apply at least two (2) months before the assignment starts.

Event organisers are advised not to publicise the candidate’s participation in the event until the work pass has been approved.
