Vietnam Bans E-Cigarettes from 2025

The National Assembly of Vietnam recently adopted a resolution recently to entirely ban electronic cigarettes, heated tobacco products, gases and substances that are addictive or harmful to human health (hereinafter collectively referred to as e-cigarettes) starting from 2025.

The main contents of the resolution are as follows:
  1. Prohibit the production, trade, import, storage and transportation of e-cigarettes.
  2. Criminalize e-cigarettes advertising and promotional activities.
  3. Prohibit the use of e-cigarettes in public spaces.
  4. Impose strict penalties for violations, including fines and imprisonment.

When Vietnam’s ban on e-cigarettes comes into force, there will be seven countries in Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), i.e. Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, Lao, Brunei, Cambodia and Myanmar, completely ban e-cigarettes, with penalties possible for offenders.

The Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia have not yet introduced bans on e-cigarettes by now. But e-cigarettes are also regulated and controlled in these countries.
