Q:
How long will the employment visa application process take?
A: The application generally takes 4 to 6 weeks from the date of submission to Hong Kong Immigration Department. Processing times can be varied according to the background of the applicant, the sponsoring company and the submitted documentations.

Q:
What is the duration of stay of my first employment visa?
A:
The length of visa will normally depend on employment period and expire date of passport which not longer than 2 years for initial application.

Q:
Once the applicant gets an Employment Visa, is he/she free to work in Hong Kong for any employment?
A:
No. An employment visa is specific to that employer as stated in the visa application. He/She must apply for a change of sponsorship by filing an extension of stay before taking up another employment in Hong Kong. It is illegal to work for another company before granted the approval.

Q:
Can the holder of employment visa get a part-time job besides the current employment?
A:
Same as above. The applicant must seek Immigration Department’s approval before taking up another employment in Hong Kong.

Q:
Can the applicant apply an employment visa if he/she is offered a part-time employment in Hong Kong?
A:
No. All employment visa application must be sponsored by a local sponsoring company that the applicant will be engaged with them as a full-time employee.

Q:
Is there any restriction on the nationality of the applicant who apply for a visa under General Employment Policy (GEP)?
A:
GEP does not apply to Mainland Chinese residents, nationals of Afghanistan, Cuba, Laos, North Korea, Nepal and Vietnam. Chinese residents of the Mainland can apply employment visa under Admission Scheme for Mainland Talents and Professionals (ASMTP).

Q:
Can my family members come with me to Hong Kong after admitted for employment under GEP?
A:
You can submit the application for dependent visa(s) along with your GEP applications or after you granted the employment visa for unmarried dependent children under the age of 18 and/or spouse to Hong Kong. You (the applicant) will be the sponsor of accompanying dependents to Hong Kong. The length of stay of such dependents will normally be linked with your (the sponsor’s) Visa.

Q:
After the dependant visa be approved, is the dependent children allowed to study in the Hong Kong?
A:
Yes, after the dependant visa be approved, they are allowed to study in the Hong Kong without prior permission.

Q:
After the dependant visa be approved, is the spouse allowed to work in the Hong Kong?
A:
Yes, after the dependant visa be approved, the spouse is not prohibited from taking up employment in the Hong Kong excepting the sponsor have been admitted to study only.
If the spouse is currently stay in Hong Kong with other visa which prohibiting employment, he/she has to apply for cancellation of the condition before taking up employment in the Hong Kong.
