Question

Calculating National Pension Insurance Premiums

Answer
Q: Can the monthly premium for national pension insurance be voluntarily increased?
A: The purpose of the national pension insurance is to provide basic economic security for the insured. Therefore, the monthly premium for each insured person is the same and cannot be increased according to individual preferences.

Q: Does the national pension insurance fee vary based on age or gender?
A: The national pension insurance fee does not differ based on age or gender.

Q: If my household income is low, can I apply for a subsidy for the national pension insurance fee?
A: Insured individuals with low household income or those with physical or mental disabilities are eligible for a subsidy for the insurance fee.

Q: I qualify as a low-income household and have a disability certificate. How will the subsidy for the national pension insurance fee be applied?
A: If an individual qualifies for two types of subsidies, the higher subsidy rate will apply. For example, if someone qualifies as both a low-income household (subsidy 100%) and has a moderate disability (subsidy 70%), the subsidy will be based on the low-income household status.

Q: How long do I need to pay the national pension insurance fee before I can receive the old-age pension?
A: If you have participated in the national pension insurance, paid the premiums as required, and accumulated the necessary years of contribution, you can start receiving the old-age pension in the month you turn 65. Once you reach 65, you are no longer required to pay the premiums, as you no longer fall under the national pension insurance coverage.
