Frequently Asked Questions - Singapore Permanent Residence (PR) Application

Jawapan
Q: How do I know if my profile is suitable for a PR application?
A: There is no single factor that determines whether an applicant will be successful. Factors such as employment, income, qualifications, length of stay in Singapore, family profile and overall circumstances are considered together. A well-established profile with stable employment, consistent income and meaningful ties to Singapore may generally be viewed more favourably. However, every application is assessed on its own merits.

Q: Do all applicants need a Singpass account for the PR application?
A: Yes. All applicants and sponsors, where applicable, must review the application and provide their declarations before submission. Applicants who are eligible for Singpass will need to log in through the ICA e-Service using their Singpass. Those who are not eligible for Singpass will be provided with alternative login credentials by ICA.

As Singpass registration may take 2–5 working days, we recommend that all eligible applicants register for their Singpass account before starting the PR application to avoid unnecessary delays..

Q: Will my child need to serve National Service (NS) if granted Singapore PR?
A: All the male applicants who are granted Singapore PR as a foreign student or under their parents’ sponsorship are liable for National Service under the Enlistment Act 1970.

Parents should understand the NS obligations before including a male child in a PR application, particularly where the child is approaching or has reached the relevant age for NS registration and enlistment. NS obligations may also have implications for future immigration or citizenship applications if they are not fulfilled.

For the latest requirements and individual circumstances, applicants should refer to the Central Manpower Base (CMPB) or seek professional advice before proceeding with the application.

Q: What if my previous PR application was rejected?
A: A previous rejection does not mean that you are permanently ineligible to apply for Singapore PR. However, it is generally advisable to consider what has changed since the previous application before submitting a new one.

Changes such as a longer employment history in Singapore, improved income, career progression, additional qualifications, changes in family circumstances or stronger ties to Singapore may be relevant. Submitting a new application with substantially the same profile and circumstances may not necessarily strengthen the outcome. Each application is assessed based on the circumstances and information presented at the time of assessment.

Q: Can I apply for PR while changing jobs or after recently changing jobs?
A: Changing jobs does not automatically affect your eligibility for PR. However, your employment history and current employment circumstances form part of your overall profile.

If you have recently changed employers, ICA may consider factors such as your previous employment, current role, income and career progression. A job change may therefore be relevant to the overall assessment, but it should be considered together with the other aspects of your profile rather than viewed in isolation.
